Anytime an artist is around long enough to celebrate a 30-year anniversary, it is cause for a celebration. I can say that I have been familiar with the group for 25 of those 30 years. I first met Brothers In Grace in 1999 and I have enjoyed their music since. “Telling The Story” is the appropriate title of their 30-year anniversary celebration project and it is another good one from the male quartet from Hershey, PA.

The project begins with a gospel music classic from the pen of Bill and Goria Gaither, “Gentle Shepherd.” In this world today we so desperately need the leading of our “Gentle Shepherd.” One of the great, old hymns of the church is next on the project, and it also happens to be the title cut of the project. “I Love To Tell The Story” was written in 1866, but that message still rings true today. I love the version that Brothers In Grace gives us on this project. “A Good Old Gospel Song” is just that! It is an old, classic southern gospel song that many groups have recorded, and this version is great. A song that I first heard by the Cathedrals is next, and it was one of my favorites then, and remains a song I love today. The song is titled “Life Will Be Sweeter Some Day.”

The next song is a wonderful, old hymn of the church, but the arrangement was made famous by the Cathedrals. It was written in 1918, long before the Cathedrals came into existence, but the arrangement made this song a staple amongst quartets on the 1980s. “Wonderful Grace Of Jesus” has long been a favorite hymn of mine and I was thrilled to see it on this project. “Loving God, Loving Each Other” is a song that simplifies the message of the gospel to a couple of tasks. First, we love God and then we love each other. I have always enjoyed the song, and this version is a good one. The next song originated close to the area where Brothers In Grace are based. The Harrisburg, PA area is less than an hour away and the Couriers called that area home for a lot of years. Neal Enloe, of the Couriers, wrote the next song and it was the Couriers biggest hit. “Statue Of Liberty” is the well-known song I am talking of, and it is always good to hear it again. “Standing On Holy Ground” is next and is another gospel classic.

Another of the hymns of the church is next with “Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus.” It is such an honor, relief and privilege to trust in our Savior for everything we need. He never fails and we can take Him at His Word. “I Rest My Case At The Cross” is a song made popular by the Perrys a few years and is one of my all-time favorite southern gospel songs. The cross settled it all and that is what this song says. A great a cappella performance on a chorus titled “The Gift Of Life” is next and it is awesome with an amazing message. “While The Ages Roll” is the ending song and what a great thought to end on. I love to think about heaven and this song talks all about that day we go there and the days we will spend there in eternity.

A project that is celebrating a 30-year anniversary should be diverse and celebratory. This project is both. While it celebrates the groups heritage, it also has a great collection of hymns, gospel favorites, choruses and everything in between. My favorite songs from the project are “A Good Old Gospel Song,” “I Rest My Case At The Cross” and “While The Ages Roll.” It is what we have come to expect from Brothers In Grace; solid singing, familiar songs, good production, and an enjoyable project.
